Buenos Aires residents accuse builders of hiding evidence after collapse

Residents of the Estación Buenos Aires housing complex in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Parque Patricios have denounced that the construction company responsible for the work may have altered the scene of the collapse that occurred days ago and have requested an investigation into the company's executives. The presentation was initiated by six new complainants represented by lawyers Fernando Burlando and Gabriel Fiedotin, who pointed out that the entry of heavy machinery onto the site could have altered key evidence. According to the Argentine News Agency, the residents denounce that four days after the collapse, a backhoe entered the affected area without prior notice and with the presence of COSUD management personnel, the company that the State had subcontracted to build the housing for the PROCREAR program. They maintain that movement in the collapse area could have altered important elements in determining the causes of the disaster. The incident occurred at the Estación Buenos Aires urban complex, located at Mafalda Street 900, where during the early hours, part of the underground parking structure of one of the buildings collapsed. The development was built under the Procrear plan and began allocating housing in 2021. The disaster forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents and affected dozens of apartments in the complex. Faced with the emergency, the City Government informed that residents who did not have a place to stay would be guaranteed accommodation for the night, while the structural condition of the towers was assessed. In parallel, the Justice authorized controlled operations so that owners and tenants can enter to retrieve belongings, while technical investigations advance to determine the causes of the collapse. In this context, the victims began to directly point to the construction company and its managers, whom they attribute possible structural failures in the work and subsequent maneuvers that could have altered the scene of the event.
